Friday's Letters

Dear Grey's Anatomy, WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
I wasn't even like 10 mins in before I had to crack open my new box of Kleenex and literally wail! I mean you would've thought that I was Meredith Grey!
I just can not BELIEVE the story line, but hindsight I guess I could've seen it coming. I don't want to spoil it for those who have yet to see the finale and want to... but just take my word for it- grab and box and prepare yourself.

Dear Scandal, SCANDALOUS! WOW! First off, the First Lady becomes more and more surprising as a lying manipulating character. CYRUS! made my jaw drop and bye bye Billy. SMH. I will be watching and maybe even hosting a premier watch party for Season 2.

Dear Hubby, as always you are the greatest! First, this just because gift that you got me this week is the BEST thing since sliced bread! You knew your coffee-feigned wife was going to make you poor, so great investment!
Also, hubby... I am so glad that you didn't laugh too long and hard when you came home from work and saw me sprawled all over our bare hardwood floors with tissues.. I was really in my feelings over those shows last night.. and just like me you got SUCKED right into my Thursday Night madness. I am so glad that you came home when you did so that we could scream NOOOOOOOOOO at the T.V. Together.

And by the way, I am sorry for being a meanie this morning, I was really anxious about having to go to court on a case that wasn't mine and your slow driving and lack of knowing where you were going was really working my nerves. I was really beginning to feel like Miss Daisy. But guess the joke was on me because I got to court and it was rescheduled for next week. OOPS! (totally not my fault) hope you didn't miss your hair cut appointment having to take me all around D.C.
P.S. It's Date Night! I hope you have saved your money because I can't wait! Our first baseball game! And its Nationals vs Orioles... Lets ROOT ROOT ROOT for the HomeTeam! Well, MY home team.. Go Orioles!

Dear Sizzling Express Sushi, How I love thee, let me count the ways! My Salmon Yaki Maki was so on point yesterday, that I could totally have it again today.

Dear Kobie, you darling god daughter of mines, today you discovered your first pair of sandals - shoes that go between your toes do exist. You are looking so intently at your feet studying how this could be so. No worries young lady.. this is one small step towards wedges and stilettos.. Something your mother nor I are ready for.

Dear New Blog Followers, WELCOME! I really appreciate you being here. I have gotten the chance to correspond with some and cyber friend others. I truly enjoy reading other blogs during the day.

Dear New Readers, go ahead and comment if you like! I try to keep it light and fun around these parts. Don't be shy.

Dear Mom, you are the funniest! Seeing you tweet about scandal right along with me was so much fun. It was even more hilarious calling you after the show went off to discuss. When hubby heard your reactions to the show he said I get my dramatic talking to the T.V. from you! Your WHAT WHAT WHAT!?! is classic! and yes, I hated to be the bearer of bad news but that was the season finale and we will have to wait until later to see who Quinn really is...

I'm a Hustler: a Ear Hustler

Have you ever been in a line : at a grocery store, at the bank, waiting for your chinese food order like I was one day, or waiting in the chipotle line like I was today (yes as you can tell I am not doing that great on the diet front just yet) and hear a great conversation behind you?

You, know ones where you don't really mean to listen in on, but your ears perk up and next thing you know you walk slowly or tune everything else out so that you can hear the rest of the story...

Or even the ones you really could care less about, but the person around you is talking so loudly they have now included you in their conversation and now you can't help but laugh out loud when they weren't talking to you?

It's called.. Ear Hustlin' : one who listens in on a conversation
Used to be called eavesdropping, now referred to as ear hustlin'

For whatever reason, I have found myself in that situation a little more often then usual.. probably because I have been in more carryout lines then I need to be.

But I figured I would share some of the conversations that I ear hustled due to being in that awkward situation where people talk so loud you can't help but get sucked into their conversation.

Conversation #1: Lady on the Phone with someone at the Chinese Carry Out

Random Lady 1- "Girl, she stopped speaking to her father... for like 6 months now!"

[cell phone person speaks - I assume asks "why?"]

RL: "Girl, because her dad got married and didn't invite her!"

[CPP responds]

RL: "It wasn't like a real wedding or anything. I mean, he went and got married at the Justice of the Peace, does that even count?"

[CPP responds]

RL: "I know, I tried to explain it to her. They got married and had their reception at IHOP".

at that point.. her order was up.
I held every bit of laughter within me because instantly I imagined it went something like this:

I just didn't want to laugh in her face.. didn't want her to know I was ear hustlin' on accident...

Conversation #2: In the line at Chipotle.. Young Lady on the Phone with her friend seeking relationship advice.

YL: "Yes I asked him... I just mentioned twitter beef and he knew who I was talking about"

[Pause for person on Cell Phone]

YL: "I wanted to tell him, I KNOW her ...whole... name!

[Pause for person on Cell Phone]

YL: "... but he has always told me that the only people he has slept with has been friends."

[Pause for person on Cell Phone]

YL: "well, he said he was drunk and that he would talk to her.. well no, they are friends but they haven't been on close speaking terms"

[Pause for person on Cell Phone]

YL: "oh.. no she was sober.. see that's the problem that he wanted to address."

[Pause for person on Cell Phone]

YL: "Well, I told him I don't feel special and I am not going to take being treated like this. I have a higher level of standards."

[Pause for person on Cell Phone]

YL: "well, he did say he just left when he finished ...

[Pause for person on Cell Phone]

YL: "I am going to see him tonight...

... oh naw, you know girl, just talking to someone from school. You know how it is.. you always run into someone you know at Chipotle.
But naw, we will go out tonight, but I reminded him HIGHER LEVEL OF STANDARD! He had to know he can't just keep getting drunk and sleeping with friends"

Young Lady -- get a grip on reality. A higher level of standard is not exclusive friends with benefits relationships. I mean REALLY?! Get off Twitter and go get checked!

As much as I was now knee deep in her conversation and had yet to turn around to see what she even looked like, I was hoping that the self-respecting woman in her would say:

It really ended like :

YL: "Girl, let me call you back, that's him now.."

"Hey Boo."

Monday's Musings: Movies, Mothers and More

This weekend was a great weekend. It was nothing too out of the ordinary, but I got to spend quality time with my husband and my sister since my mother could not be in the DMV (DC, MD, VA Area- always referred to as the DMV here) to see us. She was in GA.

Adventures with hubby began with a little light shopping and window shopping at our favorite mall. Then of course, we HAVE to go to the movies (Its just our thing) and we ended up seeing The Avengers yet again, but this time IMAX 3D. Usually the 2nd week the lines aren't that long.. but with The Avengers, it was just like it came out yesterday.

YES! This is the line... wrapped around and then some!

Is it just me or do you also HAVE to have Movie Theater Popcorn when you go to the movies... for me, I get so anxious, even if I have already seen the movie that I have to eat something or I will be one of those people you hate in the movie thats screaming out "Watch OUT!"

On Mother's Day, my sister and I hung out together at a Mother's Day Brunch sponsored by DivasMPH

Meet Joi-Marie.. my little sister

Here she is giving remarks at the Heart Healthy Mother's Day Brunch sharing how Heart Disease hits home for us. We wear Red Dress Pins to raise awareness.

In addition, look who came to visit ME! It's Arista, our part-time pet! She at times lives with me and hubby and now for the most part she lives with Joi-Marie in New York... as her guard dog. LOL.

This little monster peed on me in excitement.. oh what fun?! Why do Daschunds do that?!

And now, a lesson in how my blog post bites me in the butt... another Newlywed Confession
Oftentimes, as aware as I am about what we need to work on - it takes a while for it to become part of our very nature.

As much as I wish at times, hubby would step up and help me even more then he already does, it doesn't really fathom me that he may want the same thing out of me. Grant it, I may think that I am doing enough, but I am definitely aware that he may want the same.

He literally said to me, "Where's my help help-mate?!" as he was fussing at me about not offering to find him something to eat last night for dinner. Truth be told, I was tired. He felt like since he got up earlier then I did and did the most yesterday that perhaps his "more tired" feeling should trump my basic tired feeling. His point was that if the shoe was on the other foot, he would've done the same. I would like to believe that would be the case... but hey, maybe he would've or maybe he wouldn't have. Unfortunately that was not the point.

This I think is a lesson for newlyweds: at times we have to be what we want.

When the Bible says, God loves a cheerful giver... it doesn't always apply to just giving of tithes and offerings. If the things that I do around the house: if I did that cheerfully, perhaps my husband would not feel like I did nothing...

The struggle is to not assume that because he is asking me to versus my volunteering to, he will not see it as it being my duty. I can want all day for him to cook more often, but it truly is a battle of how we were raised bumping heads. It's up to us to find the compromise. I have placed all financial responsibility and balancing our bank accounts on him with no looking back. Something I would hate to have to do because going to the bank is such a pain to me.. but he does it without complaint..

Not to mention, it is hard to compartmentalize emotions when you are being pulled in different directions. My husband lost his mother in 1999. Mother's Day is never easy and yet, him choosing not to eat all day was not out of laziness but rather on that particular day, he wanted to be nurtured, like a mother.. basically I failed.

I was tired, but hubby missed his mom.
Rest in Peace, Altagracia Saint-Jean

So hubby, Monday morning is hindsight 20/20...
You are truly a momma's boy.. you even look just like her.

Let's go to Bed, Bath and Beyond now..

Love ya!
